Best track on "Something for everybody" LP 1961

A rather good album, but lacks something. The sound isn´t as clear as on "Is back"...and it´s the same studio!?. Two tracks have to go as usual. "It´s a sin" is not my cup of tea. Sounds very dated to my ears. "I slipped, I stumbled, I fell" was recorded for Blue Hawaii, but rejected. It has a completely different sound and doesn´t really fit on the album, so that´s the second track. On the positive side, the most tracks are solid, if not marvellous. But "There´s always me" is a powerful ballad sung with great care. "Gently" is...eh gentle and the guitar pickin´ is nice. "I´m comin´ home" is good, fun pop and the solos are great. "Put he blame on me" reminds me a bit of Ray Charles. But my choice of today is the opening track.

By the way: "Judy" was a very popular track in Sweden and hit here.

I’m torn between "Starting Today" and "Judy" but have decided to go with the latter, as it’s vocally more challenging.

However, I cannot believe you removed "It’s a Sin". It’s a great song, and Elvis’s vocal is amazing. It would have been better to cut one of the lesser recordings; "Put the Blame on Me", "I’m Comin’ Home", "In Your Arms", or "I Want You with Me".

This list just reminded me how disappointing the album was.

After the excellent Elvis is Back had proved that the post-army Elvis could still cut it, & handle any of the current music genres with ease, he brings out this bland, middle-of-the-road, easy-listening album.

Something for the mums & dads, more like.

Where was the danger ?

Where was the menace ?

Where was the rock 'n' roll ?

All sadly missing, I'm afraid.

The real strength of the album is that he proves he is also the greatest ballad singer in the world. That has got to count for something.

I vote for "There's Always Me". Elvis was also very proud of the operatic bellow at the end.

"There's Always Me" was the song that grabbed me way back in the day.
Still does.

"It's a Sin" grew on me over the years. Never liked "Judy".

Love the FTD version of this album.

To me the whole album is great. Elvis just sounds phantastic and the songs are all great, too. I love the FTD edition of that album, especially because they included "Anything That's Part Of You". What a song!

Hi! The problem is that it doesn´t matter which song I remove, and it it will upset someone. But ok, "In your arms" is a bit weak.

This is one of my favourite albums. I voted for Judy. I play this one most times. Always thought Judy should have been an A side single. I like most of the other tracks but not Put The Blame On Me. Every fan has their own favourite tracks.

I haven't really listened to this album in awhile, but looking at the tracklist again, I realized that I do like it a whole lot.

There's Always Me is definetely a contender, for me, as the best track on that Lp, but I picked Put The Blame On Me.

Maybe it's because I loved the sequence in "TICKLE ME" when I was a kid ...

It is sometimes too hard, IMHO, to pick that best, or fave song on a specific record because It just really depends on the mood you are in at that particular moment.

While There's Always Me is an undeniably masterful track, I voted for I Want You With Me. It's the closest he came in the 61-64 period to the raunchy-rockin' 50's Elvis.

I've never understood why so many fans are enamoured of Judy. That tune epitomizes the safe, toe-tappin' pop-rock for mom and pop that Colin wrote about.

Let´s not forget about "Little sister" and "King of the whole wide world". The latter one has rather raw vocals.

It's too soft for an A side -- but I share your affection for the track. In fact, that softness is what I like about: "Ohhh, Judy ..... PLEEEEASE...." And I like when Elvis dips down on: "Don't let our love wither and die like flowers in the FAALLL-AAALLL-ALLLL". Very well sung, as are all these tracks, of course.

without the singles from these sessions the album does seem very safe. It's beautiful but safe. I always liked Judy because it has an effortless swing to it. But I went for Put the Blame on Me because it has a bit of oompf. The real star from the sessions is I feel So Bad which is just awesome. If the singles were added this album would seem much better than without. But you could say the same about EIB and FEIM.

"Anything That's Part Of You" is so lovely, he sings it with such feeling like he's been there.

"theres always me" is great too.
