Best track on "Speedway" LP 1968
End of an era! This was the last movie soundtrack, if you don´t count "That´s the way it is" of course. A bit weaker than the last one (Clambake), mostly because the bonus tracks misses the edge found on tracks like "Guitar man" or "Big boss man" on the latter. Two tracks has to go and Nancy´s song is the first, because we´re voting on Elvis here . The second one is "He´s your uncle, not your dad". I don´t think that lots of you folks want change that one...
The title track is ok, but the duet between Elvis and Nancy is not that good in my opinion. "Who are you" reminds me a bit of "All that I am". But "Let yourself go" is a great rocker. Good producing/arranging here. The lullaby "Five sleepy heads" is short, but sung with care (perhaps he knew needed a song song like that in early 1968...).Return to sender part two...I mean Western union was the last song to be dragged out of the ´63 sessions. Not that much to care about. "Mine" is a good ballad and is a bit underrated...."Goin´home, recorded for "Stay away, Joe" sounds very fresh to my ears. Again nicely produced. The last one is a song that we know was a dear one to Elvis, but I think that I put my vote "let yourself go", with "Goin´home" as close second.
Vote on!
Regards Björn

"Western Union" (my vote) is actually a great track. It's fresher then "Return To Sender" to me as it hasn't been played to death. I agrue if it had come first it would have been just as big a hit. "Suppose" would be a close second. Haunting song and great vocals. Elvis' voice is getting deeper by this album, and overall it's a lot easier on the ears then Double Trouble and many of the other soundtracks.

Hello Shanebrown!shanebrown wrote:A difficult one. Let Yourself Go is probably the best track, but Your Time Hasn't Come Yet Baby is just sooooo cute! It gets the vote from me.

I think that I have a solution. Of course I will bring on all the songs, never before recorded by Elvis, and fill it out with nice versions of already recorded songs. On the NBC special, it might be a "Best moment on..."

It won´t be two polls. I have excluded tracks on almost every poll yet, and there have also been a few arguments too. And I´m not gonna waste time om doing two polls on one album, just to bring on Hound dog from Elvis in concert...kuenzer wrote:No. But it shows that it might well give reason to controversies. My suggestion would be to split it into two polls: Aloha I and Aloha II (then, of course, everyone has 2 votes in total). Instead of dropping songs.
Let´s remember that this is just a bit of fun.

This time you have cut the list down to nine tracks. In order to save time, I assume.dreambear wrote:I have excluded tracks on almost every poll yet, and there have also been a few arguments too. A very enjoyble LP , i kind like it all...
I choose: GOIN' HOME ! this is a fantastic song, very underrated
i remeber i heard it for the first time ever on the radio : THE VOICE OF PEACE ! and for a long time it was a mystery song to me, i didnt know what his name , from what LP...
second is : LET YOURSELF GO & WHO ARE YOU ?
Sincerely
Lior

I am missing There ain't nothing like a song which is quite a gas in my eyes.
In sight of its absence, I vote for Let Yourself Go, although I definitely prefer the TV Special version.
I also like - guilty pleasure - Who Are You (Who Am I) for its smoothness. That song is lounge pure. Great sax!
The LP is quite good. For me, there are only two bummers:
Five Sleepy Heads and He's Your Uncle, Not Your Dad.
No bad statistics for an Elvis soundtrack.
