Best track on "Elvis" (NBC TV Special) LP 1968
Hi again!
This time I had to face a problem: How to do a poll of this allbum with all it´s bits and pieces. Instead of using separate tracks, I will go for ”best moment on”. The moments are:
Opening sequence: Trouble/Guitar man
Sit down part one: Lawdy, miss Clawdy/Baby what you want me to do
Stand up medley: Heartbreak hotel/Hound dog/All shook up
Stand up part two: Can´t help falling in love/Jailhouse rock/Love me tender
Gospel sequence: Where could I go but to the lord/Up above my head/Saved
Sit down part two: Blue christmas/One night
Memories
Road medley: Nothingville/Big boss man/Guitar man/Little Egypt/Trouble/Guitar man
If I can dream
This is indeed a historic album that certainly lifted a few eyebrows back in 1968. It´s hard to believe that it is the same man who sang on the ”Double trouble” soundtrack just 2 years earlier. It is Elvis who saves the day, because the sound quality differs very much and some of the more heavy produced songs like the stand up rock medley, doesn´t sound that good to my ears (Do I dare to write this about this classic album?).
The opening sequence is probably my favourite piece on this album. Perhaps because I can´t help seeing Elvis´ evil looking eyes in front of me. Sit down cuts like Lawdy miss Clawdy and One night really hits hard too.
I know that a lot of people like Memories, and I can hear that Elvis´ singing is splendid, but the song itself doesn´t mean anything to me.
The road medley is also good and the inclusion of Little Egypt is weird, but refreshing. If I can dream is a very good and natural album closer, but I will give my vote to the album opener.
Please vote on!
Regards Björn

Lawdy Miss Clawdy by a mile - it's the most raw and powerful rock performance Elvis ever gave in my opinion.

The entire album is of very high quality. The opening sequence is a very powerful moment not only on the album, but in rock history as well.

The opening sequence, by all means, followed by the finale with "If I Can Dream."
Unforgettable moments.
