Best track on "I got lucky" LP 1971

As I have written before, this album was one of the first I owned as a child (cassette), so I really have to put the famous rose coloured glasses away.

It starts off with the title track and it sounds a bit thin. I liked it as a child but nowadays I´m a little bit more critical to this tune. Of course, the singing is splendid, as on every track before 1963.

"It´s a wonderful life" is very typical early sixties pop song in the style of "Western union" or "Judy". Not bad but also not on the number one place for undiscovered live tracks from the 70´s...

But now things starts to happens. "I need somebody to lean" on is a very nice ballad. A perfect late-night-bar-song. I think this one will get a few votes.

But if the next track gets any votes, I really need to have a serious discussion with that person. At the moment, I can only think of "Queenie Wah..." as a worse track!! There are a few other candidates, but..no we leave this one.

"Riding The Rainbow" is a relief after the yoga song but it´s still not one of the best tracks on this album. The musical arrangement is a bit interesting though.

"Fools fall in love" probably sounded at bit unfashioned in 1966, but I like it and sure Elvis did. It rocks along nicely.

"The Love Machine" is way better than it´s brother mentioned before. The lyrics are awful, but otherways it sounds a bit mean. But good? Hardly.

"Home Is Where The Heart Is" is a pearl. A tender song. What a deep voice Elvis had as early as 1961! And the lyrics isn´t that bad either. It will be my choice here.

"You gotta stop" is one of the better tracks from EC, EG. It´s sounds really mean, but the sound is horrible, as on the other tracks from that movie.´A different kind of ending. reminds me of "Stop, look and listen" which means that they already had used this little idea.

"If You Think I Don't Need You" ends the album and it is a nice ending. Elvis sings with nerve and the rythm section is burning. Wasn´t this a Red West song?

This is probably not one of the strongest Camden albums, but I guess that it was a chance to collect some rare songs in 1971 for people who didn´t own 7 inch records.

I've fond memories of this album. Played it to death when I was a kid. Back then I would say that I Need Someone to Lean On would have been my least prefered track by miles. Far too slow and lacking the charm and sentiment of the other slow tempo track on the album, the sincere Home is Where The Heart Is. Of course, times change and an older me can maybe appreciate INSTLO a bit more - though for real laid back late night bar song feel the alternative take 8 is the one to listen to (FTD Viva Vegas). I still actually like most of the songs on this album - they're mainly happy upbeat tunes and Elvis sounds good in most of them. I've voted for I Got Lucky but it was a tough call!

I like this album overall, although Yoga and Love Machine do weigh it down. I love the title song, just so happy and catchy. I liked the scene in the movie where he sings it too. The cover by pickwick is actually better then the original. They use lettering that matches Elvis belt. Do I wish the Camden albums were stright reissues of the ep's with the track order and covers reproduced? Yes but there is some good music to be found and many of the songs here are solid.

Without a doubt my favorite track has always been "I Need Somebody To Lean On." A beautiful song with a top notch vocal. I like this album overall.
Although I could have done without "Yoga" or "Machine." I suppose they're here because they hadn't been on LP before. At least not in the U.S.

The german album "Today, tomorrow and forever" was a nice 12 track LP in 1969 in the same concept as the better Camden albums. But I don´t know if it was full price or budget price. Anyone from Germany on this board?

I voted for "I Got Lucky." However, it was a tough choice between that one and "Yoga Is As Yoga Does." It aggrivates me to this day that Elvis never did "Yoga Is As Yoga Does" in concert. When I saw his Louisville show in 1974, I kept shouting for him to do it. I guess he didn't hear me though. It also would have made a great little piece to add to the bordello scene in June 1968. I had heard that it was planned but scrapped at the last minute as well. I walk around singing it all day.

I can't get enough of this song.

I used to love this album when I was 12.

You Gotta Stop - I used to think that was great - I guess I only had a few LPs at the time.

All in all it's still an ok album, even with Yoga Is, As Yoga Does !!

YIAYD is more a late-period movie song, like Clambake. Personally, I prefer mid-period movie songs. But if someone told me that he thinks late-period songs like Who Needs Money or Confidence rock, I would value that opinion.
