Re: Elvis Back In Nashville (4 cd Box Set)
I've listened to the first 2 CD's this past weekend. The content has been discussed already... but I will say the mixing Matt has done is really the best I've heard done to date with Elvis' studio recordings... mainly in terms of how he set the sound stage for the different instruments. It's really much larger than any other Elvis recordings... including FEIN. You can identify nearly all the instruments. IMO the sound is incredible and very enjoyable to listen to. I'm not a fan of removing the background vocals (which wasn't an issue on most of the gospel tracks) but it's still worth listening to. I'm glad I have it my collection... during the holiday season CD2 and 3 will see a lot of play.

Buddy I don’t think he would have agreed to have inferior outtakes, false starts, swearing and concert soundboards released either. I’m enjoying the new set on my Apple Music and do like hearing these tracks with less layers added on.

Re: Elvis Back In Nashville (4 cd Box Set)
The set has come into the midweek U.K. album chart at 22, which from memory is 8 places higher that From Elvis In Nashville, and which apparently sold around 2,000 copies in the first week and topped out at 70 in the actual album chart at the end of the first week before dropping out the following week.
This coming Friday’s chart and the sets position and sales will be interesting.

I completely agree, the issues with the backing singers aside, the mixing is really some of the best stuff that I've heard. Kudos to Matt. Listening to this set makes me hope that he is working on the EOT tapes as has been speculatedelvis-fan wrote: ↑Mon Nov 15, 2021 7:33 pmI've listened to the first 2 CD's this past weekend. I think it simply became the poste boy for all of the songs of that type in the 1970s due to the immature humour of certain members. It's not a great performance, and it's over the top, but it's not as horrendous as some suggest.Steve Morse wrote: ↑Mon Nov 15, 2021 7:33 pmAlthough it's almost a crime to say so on this forum, I've liked Padre since Day 1 (1973).

I found the alternate of Love Me Love the Life I Need interesting. It's ragged, to say the least, but Elvis manages the high notes better with a kind rasp in his voice. By the time of the master take, he seemed to be running on empty. It's a pity it wasn't remade in the June session.
Accused of being "a nerd in his 20s." I wish.

Elvis should have never ever copied Toni Ardens bombast vocal performance 1:1, because that's what it is. Okay for a woman, way too high for a man who had too much sh*t in him.
But I also liked "Padre" from the first day I heard it.

Who was in charge of the packaging? And who in the Elvis team has the authority to change to another packaging business where (hopefully) they do a third NASHVILLE set 1966-1968 ?

Re: Elvis Back In Nashville (4 cd Box Set)
Finally got my copy! So far I'm most surprised and pleased with the christmas recordings on disc 2. I like this more naked down to earth feel to the recordings. It is almost a different, and even better christmas album, imo!
Overall, after the two first discs, I am very pleased about the way Elvis' voice really shines!

I like the overall design style, but they should use the plastic cd spiders to hold the discs, rather than the card slots.Walter Hale 4 wrote: ↑Mon Nov 15, 2021 10:20 pmGood point.JimmyCool wrote: ↑Mon Nov 15, 2021 5:16 pmI miss the "Platinum" format days...rockinrebel wrote: ↑Mon Nov 15, 2021 12:37 pmI managed to remove my discs relatively easily, and didn't notice any damage to the discs. SO as it stands, those of us who purchase a physical copy, run the risk of damaging the cd's or the packaging the first time we take them out!rockinrebel wrote: ↑Mon Nov 15, 2021 10:34 pmI like the overall design style, but they should use the plastic cd spiders to hold the discs, rather than the card slots.Walter Hale 4 wrote: ↑Mon Nov 15, 2021 10:20 pmGood point.JimmyCool wrote: ↑Mon Nov 15, 2021 5:16 pmI miss the "Platinum" format days...rockinrebel wrote: ↑Mon Nov 15, 2021 12:37 pmI managed to remove my discs relatively easily, and didn't notice any damage to the discs. Problem with those is that they increase the depth of the box.rockinrebel wrote: ↑Mon Nov 15, 2021 10:34 pmI like the overall design style, but they should use the plastic cd spiders to hold the discs, rather than the card slots.Walter Hale 4 wrote: ↑Mon Nov 15, 2021 10:20 pmGood point.JimmyCool wrote: ↑Mon Nov 15, 2021 5:16 pmI miss the "Platinum" format days...rockinrebel wrote: ↑Mon Nov 15, 2021 12:37 pmI managed to remove my discs relatively easily, and didn't notice any damage to the discs. Guaranteed... in fact most of the scratches (I believe) came from when the CD's were first inserted in production...Walter Hale 4 wrote: ↑Mon Nov 15, 2021 10:41 pmSO as it stands, those of us who purchase a physical copy, run the risk of damaging the cd's or the packaging the first time we take them out!

Re: Elvis Back In Nashville (4 cd Box Set)
Well ABBA have done extremely well with their new album and it sold around 175k in the U.K. in the first week, but of course it does have completely new tracks and is a pretty good album. But their Gold album even though it has been in the U.K. chart for over 1000 weeks still outsold Elvis’ new set. But there are a few of the established artists from the past like Elton John, Fleetwood Mac and Oasis with hit comps or re-issues that have been hanging around the U.K. charts for a while. Let It Be sold close to 19k in its first full week and four weeks later is around 26k. If Elvis maintains around #22 for the rest of the week, the sales would be better than last years release.Walter Hale 4 wrote: ↑Mon Nov 15, 2021 10:27 pmGood one emjelemjel wrote: ↑Mon Nov 15, 2021 8:52 pmThe set has come into the midweek U.K. album chart at 22, which from memory is 8 places higher that From Elvis In Nashville, and which apparently sold around 2,000 copies in the first week and topped out at 70 in the actual album chart at the end of the first week before dropping out the following week.

Re: Elvis Back In Nashville (4 cd Box Set)
Mine came out pretty easily apart from disc 3 which was harder, but they are all clean. I’ve now put them in rice sleeves and trimmed the bottom edges so they are curved and re-inserted them. No problem in getting them out now but as I have copied the discs to my HD, I doubt I will ever need to do so. But Sony need to address this problem with a design change.elvis-fan wrote: ↑Mon Nov 15, 2021 11:34 pmGuaranteed... in fact most of the scratches (I believe) came from when the CD's were first inserted in production...Walter Hale 4 wrote: ↑Mon Nov 15, 2021 10:41 pmSO as it stands, those of us who purchase a physical copy, run the risk of damaging the cd's or the packaging the first time we take them out!

Re: Elvis Back In Nashville (4 cd Box Set)
Mine came out fine... but 3 of them have a small group of scratches or scuffs on one side of the CD. And I just don't like that you have to put your fingers on the playing surface of the CD in order to get it out...emjel wrote: ↑Tue Nov 16, 2021 12:18 amMine came out pretty easily apart from disc 3 which was harder, but they are all clean. That's where Ernst or Roger SEMON should have some clout to follow this up with whomever folks are responsible for the design. Same thing with proofreading matters.emjel wrote: ↑Tue Nov 16, 2021 12:18 amMine came out pretty easily apart from disc 3 which was harder, but they are all clean. Also it's not like this hasn't happened before , either. DO NOT let complacency set in.
By virtue of good , positive mainstream sales, I expect there will be a 1966-1968 Nashville multi disc, so that's the time to involve a different design.

Then a reasonable alternative would be to house the discs in card sleeves as per The Beatles' releases.emjel wrote: ↑Mon Nov 15, 2021 11:10 pmProblem with those is that they increase the depth of the box.rockinrebel wrote: ↑Mon Nov 15, 2021 10:34 pmI like the overall design style, but they should use the plastic cd spiders to hold the discs, rather than the card slots.Walter Hale 4 wrote: ↑Mon Nov 15, 2021 10:20 pmGood point.JimmyCool wrote: ↑Mon Nov 15, 2021 5:16 pmI miss the "Platinum" format days...rockinrebel wrote: ↑Mon Nov 15, 2021 12:37 pmI managed to remove my discs relatively easily, and didn't notice any damage to the discs.
