#1980006

Post by LesterB »

I picked this up for very little money at a record fair a few weeks back.

Its a mixed bag but if you can find one cheap enough then its a good buy. Sound quality ranges from superb to the truly horrible Electronically reprocessed stereo!

Below are my first impression notes on sound quality
96 hits.jpg
Elvis Forever 96 hits of The King

A1 Electronically reprocessed stereo

B6 Electronically reprocessed stereo I Got Stung 1:50
B7 Electronically reprocessed stereo One Night 2:32
B8 Stuck On You
2:17
C1 Nice low bass and crisp finger clicks Fever 3:32
C2 Excellent top end and piano - lots of detail. Great midrange It' Now Or Never
3:12
C3 Lovely detail - sounds great Are You Lonesome Tonight? 3:07
C4 Sounds average but these recordings are not that great in the first place Wooden Heart
* 1:58
C5 Amazingly clear and detailed - a really dynamic cut Surrender 1:51
C6 Sounds really nice without tons of reverb BUT sounds better on the American Trilogy boxset cut by Boppin’ Bob Jones Wild In The Country
1:50
C7 One of the best cuts that ive heard of this - can really here the maracas going with Elvis’ voice up front. The drums sound better than you normally hear on complications Rock-A-Hula Baby
1:58
C8 Clear and crisp with a lovely midrange - very detailed. Can't Help Falling In Love 2:59
D1 EXCELLENT sound Good Luck Charm 2:23
D2 Excellent but sounds somewhat digital compared to the Boppin’ Bob Jones superb GIRLS! GIRLS! GIRLS! Soundtrack Return To Sender
2:05
D3 Great bass guitar string and drums - clear and fast sound. You're The Devil In Disguise 2:18
D4 Lots of detail, clear and crisp sound albeit just a tad thin in the midrange - Crying In The Chapel 2:22

E4 Mono Very good - need to crank the volume up - Loving You 2:15
E5 Mono very good great bass response Treat Me Nice 2:11

E8 Mono very good although sounds a little 2 dimensional Wear My Ring Around Your Neck 2:15

2:38
F3 Excellent sound I Gotta Know 2:13
F4 Excellent sound Kiss Me Quick 2:46
F5 Clear crisp sound but lacks the 3D feel and low bass of the Indianapolis pressings. Little Sister
2:30
F6 Nice clear sound but lacks some detail of the Indianapolis 76 press. Very nice though. No More (La Paloma)
2:22
F7 Sounds digital and doesn’t have the lovely detailed mid range of the Gold Records 3 ist Indianapolis press. I Feel So Bad
2:54
F8 Mono King Of The Whole Wide World 2:07
F9 Excellent (Such An) Easy Question 2:19
G1 Excellent sound albeit a little thin sounding overall and somewhat digital. Bossa Nova Baby
1:58
G2 Nice detail but Elvis voice sounds a little far back in the mix - perhaps it does anyway as this is not a track I play much. The 76 Indianapolis soundtrack press for this and above sounds better Mexico
1:59
G3 Very nice detailed sound but lacks the midrange of the Indianapolis Gold Records press. Witchcraft
2:21
G4 Stereo but very digital sounding and thin midrange What'd I Say 3:02
G5 Pretty good sound for a badly recorded session track - digital sounding - the Indianapolis tan label sounds better Kissin' Cousins
2:12
G6 Mono but very lively and detailed - lacking midrange. Viva Las Vegas 2:17
G7 Lovely clear and detailed sound - lacking some bass unfortunately although the upper midrange is very nice. Ask Me
2:06
G8 Lively and detailed sound although a little digital sounding and lacking bass. It Hurts Me
2:27
H1 very good plus sound, detailed, albeit a tad thin sounding with Elvis voice upfront - live version I've Lost You
3:30
H2 No gap clapping from previous track into this- same comments I Just Can't Help Believin'
4:25
H3 70s version - bright and breezy sounding but lacks the weight of the Indianapolis tan label pressing. Love Letters
2:48

K3 Excellent - really good detailed up front sound Aloha - Oe 1:54
K4 Excellent - slightly digital sound but really good Anything That's Part Of You 2:03
K5 Excellent - punchy, detailed and up front sound - sounds better than the Indianapolis Pot Luck 1976/ 77 press, albeit with a slightly thinner mid-range. Night Rider
2:07
K6 Excellent, crisp and detailed sound. Suspicion 2:35
K7 Excellent minus detailed sound She's Not You 2:07
K8 Stereo, crisp and detailed. Santa Lucia 1:11
L1 Punchy and dynamic (It's A) Long Lonely Highway 2:18
L2 Very Good although could be punchier Please Don't Drag That String Around 1:53
L3 Very punchy echoey but really good Memphis, Tennessee 2:11
L4 Very good but sounds like an early digital vinyl - good saxophone in left channel - detailed Little Egypt
2:17
L5 Very good + detailed sound Do The Clam 3:18
L6 Very good+ lots of details on the strings Indescribably Blue 2:47
L7 Excellent sound, loads of detail and somewhat punchy but lacks the bass prominence of the 1969 Indianapolis- doesn’t sound analogue which is not a criticism. Gentle On My Mind
3:20
L8 As above. Any Day Now 2:55

It is a straight copy of the first three volumes of the "Elvis forever" series just with different labels and in a box.

Yes. My Dad bought me volume 1 in the 70s when he was on tour in Germany.

The first and second record has an abridged track listing taken from Elvis’ 40 Greatest.
