I never seen these before but I grabbed the four Elvis ones in a box today ($5 each) simply for the artwork. Can anyone shed some light or info on these?? thanks

They were basically the grandfather to the Laserdisc and DVD. Very short lived. You had to hook it to a TV and used sort of like a phonograph player if I recall. I've only seen a couple of them out in the wild.

Re: ELVIS ON CED (Capacitance Electronic Disc System)
We were exclusive RCA dealer back in 1980's. I've never seen a format where so many titles came out so fast. You have to remember that back then, RCA dominated the home TV/Video market, so when they introduced something new, basically the entire industry was behind them. The folks at RCA were very smart and had struck deals with almost every major movie studio to build a huge catalog almost immediately upon introduction of the product. All in all, for the time, it wasn't bad, easy to use and loaded with titles. But, it did crash and burn fast. In the end, we had movies for around $3-$5 each....ah the memories .....!
The discs were enclosed in a plastic jacket, the size of a record album. You inserted the entire jacket into the machine, the disc stayed in as you pulled it out. You did have to turn over the disc after about an hour...

Re: ELVIS ON CED (Capacitance Electronic Disc System)
Too bad Elvis movies were never released on D-VHS (1080 HD VHS tapes), have to admit some of the artwork on those CED's look great and others not so much lol

Re: ELVIS ON CED (Capacitance Electronic Disc System)
Video CDs were just horrible . the quality was far below even VHS. It was just an MPEG file on a CD. Keep in mind , back then there was no HD yet. They came on to the scene in the early/mid 90's, way after RCA CED had come and gone. Most were region free and played on a computer and most DVD players, so a bunch came to the states from overseas ( I know many of the boards members live outside the US, so excuse me for sounding the opposite). I had a few (Elvis on Tour) and it was just awful quality!
