you just explained it beautifully,doc.
thats why its under-rated.
love his vocals on it.
always one of my favorite tracks from the Now lp.
november...come quickly.
I think you need to read my post again.
It's not "under-rated." It doesn't rate. It's third-rate.
Elvis' vocal isn't lovable. It's scattered and uninvolving.
Thats just your negative personal opinion - and to proof that you are right (a page earlier) while saying it didn't chart well etc. - tells nothing.
Guitar Man or Big Boss Man and many others also were no hits but great.
We Can Make The Morning is IMO a very fine song. It was just a B side and as almost all Elvis 70s singles the flip sides were no chart toppers anymore as in the 50s/60s when RCA released double A side singles.
Elvis' "Until It's Time for You to Go" (a song first released in 1965) peaked at #40 on the US Hot 100, and #9 on the US Easy Listening chart just two years after Neil Diamonds (1970) single which went just to #11 on the US Easy Listening chart and #53 on the US Hot 100.
So for a song which was released at least three times before Elvis, our man was most successful with it in the US. In the UK It was a UK Top 20 hit for British group The Four Pennies in 1965 but the King had a number 5 hit with it in the UK.
Conclusion: A many times covered song, most successful by Elvis.
Nothing wrong with that single at all.
